Madeleine Little announced as recipient of AAA’s inaugural National Leadership Award
Madeleine Little, a theatre-maker and university research student, was presented with the $10,000 award by Minister Paul Fletcher at the first National Arts & Disability Awards ceremony, held on 3 December 2019 at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.
Arts Access Australia’s CEO Meagan Shand congratulated Madeleine on the award, recognises and supports new and emerging leaders in the arts who identify as being d/Deaf or disabled: “Madeleine is dedicated to a disability-led future and embodies the respect, strength and passion to lead us there,” she said. “We welcome Maddie to the AAA collective and look forward to following the next stage of her leadership journey in 2020.”

The National Arts & Disability Awards were presented in partnership between Arts Access Australia and The Australia Council for the Arts for the first time in 2019, coinciding with the International Day of People with Disability.
The ceremony was generously supported by the National Portrait Gallery as venue partner, and the ACT Government through their sponsorship of Meeting Place 2019. The AAA National Leadership Award was funded with the support of the Australian Government, AAA donors and Creative Partnerships Australia through their Plus1 program.
