ALTER STATE: Culture and Access – Shaping the arts world we want to live in
We are hosting an online panel on creating national standards for access, equity and inclusion as part of Alter State festival. This event is for Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent people only.
The forum will explore:
- reasonable expectations for community standards for access, equity and inclusion;
- the best ways to embed awareness, education and accountability;
- effective ways for improvements to be integrated into existing mechanisms.
The outcomes will form the foundation for an Australian Code of Conduct for Access in the Arts, or the Code of Conduct..
The Code of Conduct will provide a set of national community standards of access in the arts to increase agency of Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent people and to tackle abelism in the sector. The Code of Conduct will include a compliance mechanism to uphold these standards. It will be voluntary for arts organisations and arts projects, but will be strongly encouraged within the sector.
The creation of a national code of conduct on access and inclusion for the arts is very important. Our aim is to co-design the Code of Conduct through the support of the arts community, the Deaf and Disabled communities, and the wider public.We want to hear from anyone and everyone who participates in the arts.
Arts Access Australia has been funded by Australia Council for the Arts sector recovery industry initiative funding to undertake this activity.
